Global Health Leader | Policy Advocate | Reproductive Health Expert
Hey everyone, and welcome!
My name is Asantesana Kamuyango, but you can just call me Asante or Sana if you prefer.
My journey in healthcare started on the ground in Malawi as a registered nurse and midwife. Since then, my drive to make healthcare fairer and more accessible has taken me across the globe—from earning my postgraduate degrees in Taiwan to shaping global health policy at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland.
In January 2026, I wrapped up an incredible chapter working at the WHO. Now, I’m excited to be taking on a new adventure as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Alberta, funded by the Canada Impact Training Award.
I’m all about connecting the dots. My core mission is making sure the big, high-level policies created in global headquarters actually make sense for the nurses, midwives, and communities on the frontlines. I am a researcher, a global health advocate, and a champion for youth and women's reproductive health.
If you're passionate about making a real impact in global health, join me here as I share:
My journey: What it's really like going from grassroots community care in Malawi to navigating global health diplomacy at the WHO.
The Big Picture: Breaking down the real-world barriers young people face in accessing reproductive health services.
What's Next: Behind-the-scenes updates from my postdoctoral research in Canada and my ongoing push to make global guidelines work in everyday life.
Thanks for being here!
Best,
Asante (Dr. Asantesana Kamuyango)
